35 Accident-Free Years Celebrated by UPS Driver

Virginia “Ginni” Odom, a Florida resident, has driven 3.5 million miles for UPS as a tractor trailer driver without one accident, making her the top ranked female UPS truck driver in the world.  This record was set over 35 years of driving for UPS.

UPS Florida stated that Odom is a classic example of the company’s dedication to safety in a press release, and commended her accomplishment.  She started working for the company in 1973, and is now 59 years old.  Odom was raised on a Tennessee farm, and driving a tractor trailer rig came easily for her, and gave her the chance to create a better life so that she could provide for her young family.  She drove delivery trucks and package cars for 9 years before she began her stint as a big rig driver.  For nearly 10 years, Odom has ran a route from Orlando to Cordele, GA on a daily basis, which is 600 miles.

3.5 million miles without an accident is a huge accomplishment which Odom credits to her training at UPS, driving at 4 am before traffic gets heavy, and “a little luck.”  Avoiding accidents for 35 years is quite an achievement, and Odom is ranked in UPS Circle of Honor as the top female driver, which honors employees who have driven for 25 years or longer and remained accident free.

Over 4,600 UPS drivers across the country belong to the Circle of Honor, and many boast stellar records of the long hours that are driven while managing tight delivery schedules and congested traffic on many highways that are traveled.  These 4600 UPS drivers have a combined 5 billion+ miles of accident free driving, which is an amazing accomplishment.

California truck accident lawyers are extremely encouraged by stories like this one, because many know all too well of the severe injuries that can occur in tractor trailer accidents.  Many drivers are negligent or incompetent, and it is enlightening to see drivers like Ginni Odom who are able to drive over such a long duration without a single accident.  This type of accomplishment requires not only unwavering attention to the road and your surroundings, but dedication to your job and performance.

There are many commitments involved in a feat like this.  Drivers must be committed to avoiding all distractions, making certain that their vehicle is maintained properly, and understanding that big rigs like these have the potential to crush smaller vehicles.  Ginni Odom is certainly to be commended on this outstanding and almost unbelievable accomplishment!
